PATH OF LIFE

The twists and turns of the labyrinth keep me focused. I raise my eyes and glance around, and step over the line. I stop to catch my balance. Today, I want to rush through and finish quickly – I have things to do.  Yesterday, I took my time and was sad to see I had reached the end so quickly. Sometimes I struggle to stay on the path; other days, I glide through the maze. But even then, the structure is such that you must concentrate on what’s right in front of you – not look behind, not look too far ahead.

I relax through the long stretches, sometimes grow bored. The quick turns keep me on my toes. Sometimes you have to step aside to let someone keep on their path. You may have to share your experience if there is more than one of you walking, sometimes being annoyed at their intrusion, other times welcoming another’s presence.

At the center, I stop to take a breath and reflect on the path I’ve come and the path now ahead of me. The path is the same; the view is different - much like hiking an out and back. It’s all in perspective.

Taking your time allows you to observe different things – the change in seasons through colored leaves on the ground or ice to step carefully around. Keeping your balance. It’s the path of life with all it’s twists and turns.
